Cal Serni

Cal Serni

Cal Serni is an old town house in Monistrol de Calders, in Moianès, comprised by two dwellings and a basement. The small dimensions of the dwelling located in the ground floor of the house leads to the idea of joining the house and the basement into one single unit.

The dining space, currently very small, will be the main programme to be moved to the ground floor, where a new reading space and a cellar will also be built.

The layout of the ground floor, with a big central kitchen island as main protagonist of the living space, does not allow to connect both storeys through the old exisiting stairs, currently walled. Therefore, a small spiral staircase will be placed in the space liberated by the old dining room.

Downstairs, to ensure proper natural illumination and air renovation, new windows are opened in the thick wall that is not underground, and the old wooden door is replaced by a new glazed window. The barrel vaults are kept in their original condition, and lime stucco is applied on the walls, to ensure proper breathability.
